Articulating Age
In order to start thinking and writing about our experiences of age and ageing as LGBTQ+ people we’ve come up with some starting points to help get your creative juices flowing.
Starting Point 1:
- Age and ageing from an LGBTQ+ perspective. What does age and ageing mean to you?
Starting point 2:
- Choose 2 significant ages of your life and explain what made them significant.
- Choose 1 significant age that’s yet to come and explain why you think it will be significant.
Starting point 3:
- Write a dialogue between you and your younger self.
Starting point 4:
- A piece of writing or audio in the form of a list that begins with the following line:
‘I count the years in…’ (e.g. I count the years in heartbeats, spoonfuls of coffee, in unanswered letters, stripes on a shirt etc.)
You can respond to these starting points:
- as a piece of writing (prose, poetry, story, monologue)
- as an audio recording (talk, spoken word, reading)
- as a combination of both
Please note that:
- Each piece of writing should be no longer than 5 mins when read out loud.
- Each audio should be no longer than 5 minutes.
- There is no minimum time limit.
If you end up writing something you’d like to share with the project please email it to projectmanager@newwritingsouth.com.
